JAKE'S MISTAKE
It happens a lot in fly tying where someone will modify an existing pattern and describe it as there own. The original
Gimp was tied by Lacey Gee over fifty years ago and continues to be a highly successful fly.
My bastardized version of this pattern came about quite by accident. Years ago it was described to me by my then high
school math instructor, Ralph Nutter. I began tying it and it wasn’t until years later that I discovered I had gotten the
pattern wrong. Unfortunately by then it was among the top five producing flies in my box. I have since moved on to
tying it in olives, ambers and browns with equal success.
